Spirits are around us all the time. How do I know this? Well first of all we must understand what a ghost actually is in order to know how they interact with us in our world.
It is the common understanding that a ghost is a human-looking apparition that floats around old houses and castles. Although true, this is the most rare form a ghost will take and is only performed to help our minds understand them better.
Ghosts are actually balls of energy that float around and can be captured using the night vision feature on a video camcorder, or by photographs. They can be anywhere, but are mostly captured around places that are purported to be haunted. They can also be mists known as ectoplasm that floats around as a concentrated vapor.
It is my understanding that souls remain here with us because of the way they died or the way they were when they died. If they were happy and ready to pass on, then their journey to the hereafter will probably be with ease. But if they died suddenly (such as being hit from behind by a car) then some are not ready to move on so suddenly, without having time to process what has just happened. They struggle with where they should be going and become stubborn. Also if someone dies with a lot of negativity, this could also possibly prevent him or her having a peaceful journey. Some spirits also claim to be trying to finish a mission or some unfinished business before they pass on.
When a ghost hunter is investigating a haunted house, the most common anomaly that they will photograph and video is a phenomenon known as "orbs". These are small, mostly round balls of translucent light that float around when observed through a night vision device such as a video camcorder, which has the night-shot feature built into it.
Just as we need food and water to live, a ghost needs energy to thrive. When a spirit materializes as a human apparition, this takes large and exhausting amounts of energy. So a more comfortable form for a spirit to hold, or use to move around, is a small energy ball. Several spirits can co-exist as a single orb and travel together. This could possibly even be a once human family. On video camcorder I have captured these orbs splitting into other orbs and then flying in separate directions. Sometimes this is accompanied by an electrical buzzing sound.
Some people might say that an orb is just dust floating through the air, or water spots when taken with a 35mm camera etc.. This is the very reason why we chose to get video camcorder footage, rather than still pictures. It's a more believable opportunity to see them on moving video rather than with pictures and at least, this way, we can see how these orbs react when pursued and also to where these orbs vanish. I found orbs mostly came out of the walls, and then disappeared back into the walls. The second most common way is teleporting out of thin air, such as in the middle of the room without obstructions, and again disappearing in the same manner. Some days I might only get 1 or 2 orbs floating around, and then on others I'll get groups of orbs. (This is also the same when taking still pictures). Sometimes they follow each other like a flock of birds, or behave individually.
Ectoplasm
Ectoplasm is also another anomaly by which a ghost can be visible. Ectoplasm is a residue left by spirits that looks like mist. A ghost's most comfortable form is an orb, but when they try to materialise as a more human-looking apparition, they will materialise into this ectoplasmic mist that can be captured more commonly on a digital camera. Ectoplasm is rare to see with the naked eye, but a bright flash on a camera can display the mist, which you can capture on film.
Quite often you faces and even full apparitions may be seen inside ectoplasmic mists, such as the photograph you will see below. If you look to the very left of the photo you will see three ghosts taking human form. On the right of the picture you can see a very large angry face that fills the photo.
When I have walked through an ectoplasmic mist, it feels as though I have walked through a big cobweb. It also feels very cold. Ecto can also be made up of wisps or funnels that have occurred from the conversion from an orb into a mist.
Vortex
A vortex is a white column of swirling ectoplasm captured using a film processing camera. This vortex is a gateway that opens up from the spirit world and lets through the other side. A vortex is like a rip in our dimension that is used as a gateway for the spirit world.
Vortex on steps - This vortex also has a white light above the funnel, which is where it must have originally ripped.
